How Does a Korean Brand Open a TikTok Shop Seller Account?

Key takeaways

As of October 2026, a Korean brand can open a TikTok Shop US seller account two ways. The Korea-US Cross-Border route uses a Korean business registration and passport plus a US logistics partner. The US local route needs a US address, an EIN and a US-issued ID for every owner and representative.

Cross-border or US local seller: which route fits, and what does each one need?

Korean brands getting ready for TikTok Shop often ask us:

"Can we sell on TikTok Shop US without a US company?"

"If we form a US LLC, can we register as a US seller?"

"How long does Seller Center approval take?"

The short answer: a Korean brand has two ways to open a TikTok Shop seller account for the US, and your owners' IDs decide which one is open to you.

Opening the account is only the first step. You also need a US warehouse, a shipping method, category approval and a healthy account score. Below, each rule comes with its TikTok page and date.

Two routes to a TikTok Shop seller account: Korea-US Cross-Border and US local seller

A Korean brand can open a TikTok Shop US seller account through TikTok Korea's Korea-US Cross-Border program, or as a US local seller with a US company. The two routes differ on entity, ID, address and logistics.

The biggest difference is the ID rule. What decides your route is not whether you have a US company, but whether your owners and representatives hold US-issued IDs.

Route 1: Korea-US Cross-Border uses a Korean entity and a Korean passport

The Korea-US Cross-Border route is for Korean companies with no US entity. On its Korean business blog, TikTok For Business says that from May 30, 2025, Korean businesses that want to onboard to TikTok Shop US should prepare:

  • A Korean business registration
  • A passport in a Korean national's name. A Korean resident registration card is not accepted.
  • A Korean address and phone number
  • A virtual account for payouts (TikTok names Payoneer as an example)
  • US logistics: a 3PL or 4PL, Amazon MCF (Multi-Channel Fulfillment, which ships non-Amazon orders from FBA stock), or Fulfilled by TikTok, which the same page says has limited slots

The list does not include a US company or an EIN. In a January 13, 2026 post, the TikTok Newsroom said TikTok runs its "Korea-US" cross-border program. The same post says TikTok has not set a date to launch TikTok Shop in Korea.

One point needs checking. TikTok Global Selling's US cross-border registration rule, dated September 4, 2026, requires the entity to be headquartered in mainland China or Hong Kong. It does not mention Korea. We also found no official page from after January 2026 that lists the Korea route's current documents.

TikTok says the Korea-US route is running, but confirm its current terms with TikTok Shop's Korea team before you apply.

Route 2: a US local seller needs a US address, an EIN and US-issued IDs

The US local seller route registers a US company. TikTok Seller University's corporation and partnership guide (September 18, 2026) sets three conditions:

  • A primary business address in the United States
  • A US company with an EIN (the federal tax ID)
  • A valid US passport or passport card, US driver's license, state ID or permanent resident card for each business owner and each business representative

TikTok's document guide adds that "all other types of ID verification will be rejected." For the representative's tax ID, TikTok accepts an ITIN when there is no SSN, but an ITIN is not on the ID list.

The rule covers every owner and every representative. By TikTok's stated rule, an owner who holds only a Korean passport cannot register as a US local seller, even after forming a US LLC.

It is easy to assume that a US LLC is what opens TikTok Shop. Our LLC guide for foreign brands said to check TikTok Shop's rules before forming an LLC only for it. This is that check: look at the owner ID rule first.

TikTok also asks for business and tax documents that depend on your entity type. Check the current list in Seller Center with your tax adviser.

Why TikTok Shop Seller Center rejects documents

Seller Center rejects registration documents that miss its format rules. The document guide (updated October 9, 2026) sets these:

  • Files under 10 MB, in JPG, PNG, JPEG or PDF format
  • No expired documents, paper IDs, cropped images or photos of a screen
  • If TikTok cannot verify a document, it asks for more proof of address, business or ID, and/or a Letter of Authorization (LOA)

The corporation guide also says you cannot use a phone number or email address already used to open another shop. For example, a manager who opened a cross-border shop for the Korean company cannot reuse that email for a shop under the US company.

Send clean documents, not more documents: the same names and addresses as your application, in the required format.

US warehouse and shipping: TikTok Shipping is the default, FBT is not a given

Every US shop sets a pickup warehouse and a return warehouse address in Seller Center, and the system checks each address for USPS compatibility (warehouse and shipping setup, August 10, 2026). The main shipping options:

  • TikTok Shipping: the default for new US sellers. TikTok's TikTok Shipping page (October 13, 2026) says it "is not available for cross-border warehouses."
  • Seller Shipping: your own carrier, for select sellers only. Complete the shipping fee template before you upload products.
  • CBT (Collection by TikTok): a pickup service within TikTok Shipping. Per TikTok's logistics guide (September 9, 2026), it needs an average of more than 50 daily orders over the past 30 days and a warehouse in an eligible ZIP code (Greater LA, the East Coast, Texas).
  • FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok): TikTok stores, packs and ships. A July 6, 2026 logistics overview says FBT "now supports most sellers with no minimum requirement," but the August 10 setup page calls it invite-only. Items must be within 26 × 26 × 26 inches and under 50 lbs.

Cross-border sellers use a US 3PL or 4PL, or MCF, per TikTok Korea's list. If you are weighing a 3PL, see when a brand needs one. Treat FBT as an option TikTok may offer you, not as the base of your launch plan.

Shipping deadline: 2 business days or 3?

TikTok's pages give different dispatch deadlines, so check your own shop's SLA in Seller Center.

  • Fulfillment Policy (September 28, 2026): orders must be marked In Transit within 2 business days of Awaiting Shipment, and Delivered within 6 business days of Awaiting Shipment.
  • Warehouse and shipping setup page (August 10, 2026): a dispatch SLA of 3 business days for TikTok Shipping and Seller Shipping, and 1 business day for FBT.

To deliver within 6 business days, the stock must sit in a US warehouse before the order comes in. You meet TikTok's deadlines by stocking the US in advance, not by rushing after the order.

Beauty and food need category approval first

Restricted categories such as beauty and food need approval in Seller Center's Qualification Center before you list. TikTok's category qualification guide (August 11, 2026) says review "usually takes about 6 days."

  • Beauty: TikTok's beauty and personal care requirements (September 1, 2026) ask manufacturers, importers and repackers for FDA registration proof. The name must match the manufacturer, importer or repacker on the product label, and the registration must be active when you submit. We cover cosmetics facility registration in our MoCRA guide.
  • Food: TikTok's shelf-stable food and beverage requirements (September 1, 2026) prohibit infant formula, additives not approved by FDA, homemade food or beverage products, meat from unapproved sources and non-durable containers. Per FDA, most facilities that make, process, pack or hold food must register with FDA every two years, and FDA does not approve individual products or labels before import.
  • Brand authorization: TikTok lists "listing a product without authorization from the brand" as an example of an IP violation (violation guide).

Category approval is separate from account approval. Start by checking that the name on your FDA documents matches your label.

After approval: keep your Account Health Rating above 150

TikTok Shop US scores every seller with an Account Health Rating (AHR). Per TikTok's AHR page (October 9, 2026), all sellers start at 200 points on a 0 to 1,000 scale, based on the last 180 days. TikTok tells sellers to keep the AHR above 150 points to avoid penalties.

  • Per the Seller Enforcement Policy (October 9, 2026), TikTok may take more action when your AHR drops to 150, 100, 50 and 0 points. Its listed actions include limits on Seller Shipping from 90 days up to 365 days.
  • Per TikTok's violation guide, you get at least an email and a Seller Center Inbox message for every violation, and "once the timer ends, that chance is gone." Appeal windows vary, so check the deadline in Seller Center as soon as a notice arrives.

Your score does not grow with sales. It starts at 200, and your job is to defend it.

Four things to check before you apply

Check these four points before you start a TikTok Shop seller registration.

1. Do all owners and representatives hold US-issued IDs?

2. If you go cross-border, has TikTok Shop's Korea team confirmed the current terms?

3. Have you set your US pickup warehouse, return warehouse and shipping method?

4. For beauty or food, does the name on your FDA documents match your label?

Wrap-up

There are two ways to a TikTok Shop seller account in the US. Without owners who hold US IDs, the Korea-US Cross-Border route is the realistic one, but TikTok's September 2026 global rule does not mention Korea, so confirm the terms first. On either route, the warehouse, deadlines, category approval and AHR come with the account.

Referral fees and creator commissions are the subject of our next TikTok Shop post.

LinkONE supports TikTok Shop store setup, product listing and creator affiliate integration, and syncs TikTok orders for fulfillment from its warehouse in Fullerton, California.

In the end, a TikTok Shop US launch is not about opening an account. It is about having US stock, shipping and account health in place before the first order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Korean company sell on TikTok Shop US without a US company?

TikTok says yes, through the Korea-US Cross-Border route. Per TikTok For Business (Korean page), Korean businesses could join from May 30, 2025 with a Korean business registration, a Korean passport, a Korean address and a US logistics partner, and the TikTok Newsroom said in January 2026 that the program still runs. TikTok's September 4, 2026 US cross-border rule names only mainland China and Hong Kong entities, so confirm the current terms with TikTok Shop's Korea team before you apply.

Can a Korean-owned US LLC register as a US local seller?

Not by TikTok's stated rule. TikTok's registration guide requires every owner and representative to hold a US passport, US driver's license, state ID or permanent resident card, and its document guide rejects all other IDs. An owner who holds only a Korean passport does not meet the rule, even with a US LLC.

How long does TikTok Shop seller registration take?

TikTok says category review usually takes about 6 days (category guide). We found no registration review time on TikTok's official US pages. If TikTok cannot verify your documents, it asks for more proof or an LOA, which adds time (document guide).

Why are TikTok Shop seller documents rejected?

TikTok's document guide rejects IDs of the wrong type, expired documents, paper IDs, cropped images and photos of a screen. Files must be under 10 MB and in JPG, PNG, JPEG or PDF format. You also cannot reuse a phone number or email address already used to open another shop (registration guide).

What is the TikTok Shop Account Health Rating?

The Account Health Rating (AHR) is TikTok's 0 to 1,000 score for US seller accounts. Every seller starts at 200 points, and the score covers the last 180 days (AHR page). TikTok says to stay above 150, and it may take more action at 150, 100, 50 and 0 points (Seller Enforcement Policy).
