TikTok Shop Fulfillment: FBT or Your Own 3PL?

Key takeaways

As of October 2026, Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) charges a per-unit fee that includes delivery and stores each inbound shipment free for 60 days. Brands that ship from their own 3PL must get each order to In Transit within 2 business days.

How FBT works, how it charges, and what your own warehouse has to do instead

Brands selling on TikTok Shop in the US often ask us:

"Should we send our stock to TikTok's warehouse, or keep it at our 3PL?"

"FBT ships free to the shopper. How does TikTok charge for it?"

"If we ship the orders ourselves, how fast do they have to go out?"

The short answer: FBT charges a per-unit fee that includes delivery and stores stock free for 60 days, while your own 3PL must get each order to a carrier scan within 2 business days.

Opening the seller account comes first, and our TikTok Shop seller setup guide covers it. This post covers what comes next: who packs and ships the orders, and how each option charges.

1. Three ways to handle TikTok Shop fulfillment

TikTok Shop gives a US seller three shipping setups, plus one outside option:

  • Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT): TikTok stores your stock in its US sites, then picks, packs and ships each order.
  • TikTok Shipping: you ship from your own warehouse or 3PL with labels from TikTok, and TikTok picks the carrier. Per TikTok's TikTok Shipping page (October 20, 2026), it works only from US domestic warehouses. Its pickup service, Collection by TikTok, runs only in listed states and starts at $2.99.
  • Seller Shipping: you ship from your own warehouse or 3PL with your own carrier. The shipping setup page says to complete the shipping fee template before you upload products.
  • Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF): Amazon ships TikTok orders from your Amazon stock through a connector app (section 6).

The choice is about who holds the stock: TikTok, your own 3PL or Amazon.

2. How Fulfilled by TikTok works

With FBT, TikTok holds the stock and does the dispatch work. Per TikTok's FBT page (August 6, 2026), each inbound shipment gets 60 days of free storage. The same page says 98% of FBT orders ship within 1 calendar day and 80% arrive within 3 days. Those are TikTok's own figures.

FBT orders are exempt from the Late Dispatch Rate (LDR), per TikTok's Late Dispatch Rate page. Orders you ship yourself are not (section 5).

With FBT, TikTok's warehouse carries the dispatch clock, not yours.

3. How FBT charges: per unit, with delivery included

FBT charges a fee per unit, and that fee includes delivery to the shopper. Every FBT unit ships free to the shopper by default, per the FBT rate card and FAQ. If you opt out of free shipping, TikTok pays you $0.75 per unit when the shopper pays for shipping. Our TikTok Shop fees post covers the opt-out and the referral fee.

The US rate card also names hub placement, incident, return and value-add fees. The per-unit rates are in the FBT rate card in Seller Center. Take your rates from there before you build a price model.

  • Billed weight: from May 1, 2026, the rate card bills actual weight for units up to 2 lb and 332 cubic inches. Larger units pay on the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight (L x W x H / 166).
  • Storage: each inbound shipment stores free for 60 days, per the FBT page. From December 15, 2025, the rate card gives 14% to 43% off for older stock up to 270 days.
  • Returns: the rate card says the flat $3.00 per order fee "is being replaced by itemized per-unit fees" from June 1, 2026.

Storage is free only for the first 60 days of each inbound shipment, so size each shipment to about 60 days of sales.

4. Sending stock to FBT: inbound rules that catch new sellers

You send stock to FBT through an inbound request (IBR), and the cartons must match it. Per TikTok's IBR process page (October 12, 2026):

  • Ship to the warehouse TikTok assigns.
  • SKU and carton counts must match the request exactly.
  • For a single-hub request, all cartons must arrive within 7 days of the first. A multi-destination plan gets 21 days.
  • A request with no stock at the warehouse 75 days after creation closes on its own.

The rate card lists a hub placement fee. TikTok's inbound course states: "Shipping Direct to FCs is for free."

Taking stock out costs money as well. From November 10, 2026, the rate card charges $0.39 per lb for exit freight shipments.

For stock that arrives from Korea in mixed cartons, someone in the US has to count and relabel it before it can match an FBT request.

5. Shipping from your own 3PL: the 2-business-day clock

If you use TikTok Shipping or Seller Shipping, each order must reach In Transit within 2 business days of Awaiting Shipment, per the Fulfillment Policy (September 28, 2026). In Transit means a carrier scan. A printed label does not count. The same policy sets 6 business days to Delivered, and cancels an order with no tracking after 5 business days.

TikTok's Late Dispatch Rate page says the 2-day rule applies from January 26, 2026.

The Fulfillment Policy also sets the scores your warehouse has to protect:

  • Late Dispatch Rate (LDR): TikTok recommends 4% or lower, and enforcement may apply above 10%.
  • Valid Tracking Rate: 95% or higher.
  • On-Time Delivery Rate: 80% or higher.
  • Seller-Fault Cancellation Rate: 2.5% or lower.

FBT orders are exempt from LDR, per the Late Dispatch Rate page. TikTok Shipping orders are not.

So ask one thing of a 3PL: can it pull TikTok orders in automatically and get a carrier scan by the next business day? Our post on when a brand needs a 3PL covers the basics. With your own warehouse, TikTok measures the carrier scan, not the label.

6. Amazon MCF for TikTok orders

If you already sell through Amazon FBA, MCF can ship TikTok orders from that stock. Amazon's MCF pricing page offers 35% off Standard and Expedited MCF rates for US TikTok Shop orders for 12 months, applied through a supported integration partner. TikTok's MCF apps page lists Pipe17, Rithum, WebBee and CedCommerce.

Two details to check:

  • Holiday peak: MCF peak fees run October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027, and a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies (MCF pricing).
  • Carrier: per Pipe17's help page, TikTok does not allow Amazon Logistics as the carrier on TikTok orders. Set the connector to block it.

Our FBA vs 3PL post compares Amazon's own fees with a 3PL. MCF fits a brand whose stock already sits at Amazon.

When FBT fits, and when your 3PL fits

FBT tends to fit when most units sell within 60 days of arrival and TikTok Shop is your main channel. Your own 3PL tends to fit when one stock pool also serves Amazon, Shopify, Walmart or retailers. Walmart Marketplace also needs a US warehouse with returns or WFS, per our Walmart Marketplace post. A 3PL also fits stock that sells slower than 60 days.

A 3PL with automatic order sync and a daily carrier pickup can meet the 2-day rule, but your shop's score carries the risk.

Four checks before you choose

1. How many units of each SKU sell within 60 days of arrival?

2. Can your stock arrive in cartons that match an inbound request exactly?

3. Can your 3PL get a carrier scan within 2 business days, every day, including Q4?

4. Which channels share this stock?

Wrap-up

TikTok Shop fulfillment comes down to who holds the stock and who carries the dispatch risk. FBT moves that work to TikTok, at the per-unit rates in your rate card. Your own 3PL keeps the stock flexible across channels.

LinkONE runs a 3PL in Fullerton, California, with TikTok, Shopify, Amazon and Walmart order sync, box-level receiving, kit assembly and returns processing.

In the end, FBT suits stock that sells fast on TikTok, and your own 3PL suits stock that serves several channels.
