Amazon FBA Fees 2027: What Changes on January 15?
Key takeaways
As of November 2026, Amazon FBA fulfillment fees rise by $0.19 per unit sold on average from January 15, 2027, and by $0.40 for small standard items priced $10 to $50. From February 1, storage becomes one age-based rate. Referral fees change only for 3D printers and eligible Renewed products.
What the 2027 fee update costs a small beauty or food brand, and when
Brands that sell on Amazon from outside the US often ask us:
"How much are FBA fees going up in 2027?"
"Are referral fees changing too?"
The short answer: FBA fulfillment fees rise by $0.19 per unit sold on average from January 15, 2027, while referral fees stay the same except for two categories. The average hides a lot, though. Small, light products rise more than the average, and the storage and low-inventory rules change on February 1.
Amazon announced the 2027 US referral and FBA fee update on November 5, 2026. This post sets out what changes, on which date, and what a Korean beauty or food brand should check before January 15.
1. The 2027 Amazon FBA fee timeline: January 15 and February 1
Amazon's 2027 US FBA fulfillment fee changes page splits the update across two dates:
- Through January 14, 2027: the 2026 holiday peak fulfillment fees still apply (they started October 15, 2026).
- From January 15, 2027: fulfillment fees "revert to non-peak fee rates," with the new 2027 rate card.
- From February 1, 2027: storage, the low-inventory-level fee and returns processing for categories other than apparel and shoes change.
One detail matters for budgeting. Per the same page, "FBA fulfillment fees are calculated and charged when shipments leave fulfillment centers." The order date does not set the rate.
The 2027 rate applies to units that leave a fulfillment center on or after January 15, whatever the order date.
2. How much Amazon fulfillment fees rise, by price and size
Amazon's 2027 fee summary says: "On average, FBA fulfillment fees will increase by $0.19 per unit sold, approximately 0.8% of the average item's selling price."
The average change depends on price band and size tier (2027 FBA fulfillment fee changes):
- Priced $10 to $50: small standard up $0.40, large standard up $0.12
- Priced above $50: small standard up $0.70, large standard up $0.47
- Priced below $10: small standard up $0.20; large standard non-apparel unchanged
Here is the non-apparel rate card for items priced $10 to $50, non-peak in both years. The amounts exclude the fuel and logistics surcharge.
| Fee line | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Small standard, 2 oz or less | $3.32 | $3.75 |
| Small standard, over 2 to 4 oz | $3.42 | $3.78 |
| Small standard, over 6 to 8 oz | $3.54 | $3.97 |
| Small standard, over 14 to 16 oz | $3.96 | $4.32 |
| Large standard, over 4 to 8 oz | $3.95 | $4.01 |
| Large standard, over 12 to 16 oz | $4.60 | $4.67 |
| Fuel and logistics surcharge | 3.5% | 3.5% |
The 3.5% surcharge has applied since April 17, 2026. Amazon's letter says "the FBA fuel and logistics surcharge remains unchanged," so add it on top of every rate above.
For example, a 3 oz toner priced at $25 moves from $3.42 to $3.78 per unit before the surcharge, an increase of $0.36. A 1,000-unit month on that item adds $360 in fulfillment fees.
Two more changes on January 15 are worth knowing:
- Five fee categories lose low-price FBA rates for items under $10: Automotive and Powersports, Compact Appliances, Musical Instruments and AV Production, Media, and Computers. Beauty and Grocery are not on the list.
- Bulky and extra-large items move to new size tiers. The overmax handling fee goes away, and new flat product and overhang handling fees start.
For a small standard item priced $10 to $50, the increase is about twice the $0.19 average.
3. Referral fees: only two changes
Amazon's 2027 fee summary lists two referral fee changes, and both are reductions:
- 3D printers: a new rate of 12% on the first $200 and 5% above $200, effective November 5, 2026
- Renewed products: a promotional 10% rate in eligible fee categories through October 18, 2027
The same page adds a fee for one promotion type. Buy X, Get Y promotions get a $5 upfront fee plus a 2% variable fee, capped at $2,000. From February 2027, promotions are billed monthly.
The 2027 increase comes from FBA costs, not from referral fees.
4. Amazon storage fees: one age-based rate from February 1
Amazon's Unified Monthly Storage Fee page says: "Effective February 1, 2027, we'll eliminate the storage utilization surcharge." It also removes the aged inventory surcharge and folds it into monthly storage "into a single, age-based rate."
Standard-size rates per cubic foot per month, non-dangerous goods, from February 1, 2027 (clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and watches have different rates from 181 days):
- Stock aged 0 to 180 days: $0.78
- 181 to 270 days: $2.78
- 271 to 365 days: $6.68
- October to December: add $1.62
For comparison, the 2026 standard-size rate is $0.78 from January to September and $2.40 from October to December.
Under the 2027 storage fee, the cost line to watch is stock that passes 180 days.
5. The low-inventory-level fee uses a new test
The low-inventory-level fee applies when a product drops below 28 days of supply. Today, Amazon checks trailing 30-day and 90-day sales. From February 1, 2027, per the Low-inventory-level fee 2027 page, "The fee will apply only when your inventory falls below 28 days of supply, based on actual shipments in both the four weeks before and after the assessment date."
The 2027 rates for small standard items up to 16 oz are $0.89 per unit below 14 days of supply, $0.63 from 14 to under 21 days, and $0.32 from 21 to under 28 days.
Exemptions on the same page include:
- Products in the grocery category
- New Professional sellers, for the first 365 days after their first inventory-received date
- Products that shipped fewer than 20 units in the past seven days
Grocery items are exempt from the low-inventory-level fee; beauty items are not on the exemption list.
6. Returns processing: two start dates
Per Amazon's returns processing fee changes page, the new rules apply to apparel and shoes shipped from January 15, 2027, and to other high-return products shipped from February 1, 2027. Category thresholds include 5.5% for Beauty, Health and Personal Care and 2.9% for Grocery and Gourmet. We explained how the threshold works in Amazon return fees for sellers.
Four checks before January 15
1. Which size tier, weight band and price band does each product fall into?
2. Will any stock pass 180 days in an Amazon fulfillment center?
3. Which products could drop below 28 days of supply?
4. Is the product's return rate above its category threshold?

Wrap-up
The 2027 Amazon FBA fee update arrives in two steps: fulfillment fees on January 15, then storage, low-inventory and most returns rules on February 1. Referral fees barely move.
LinkONE supports FBA and FBM operations, with Amazon fee structure analysis, and handles Amazon FBA prep from our Fullerton, California warehouse.
In the end, your 2027 Amazon cost depends less on the $0.19 average than on each product's size tier and stock age.
